Synchro skaters try for record
Eighty synchronized skaters combined forces to try to set a new Guinness Book World Record for the largest ice skating pinwheel.
Lexington's Hayden synchronized skating teams win 11 medals
Just an article I saw about Colonial Classic.
“The Ice Mates continued their winning streak, skating to ‘Blues Brothers.’ When one skater got sick right before their skate, another skater stepped in last minute, never having skated that spot before.”
I’m impressed by this writer’s apparent understanding of synchro…you’d think most non-skaters would refer to a “skate” as a “performance” and not understand the concept of “spots.” I couldn’t figure out who this writer is, so maybe it’s actually a skater, which would explain the jargon!
Boston Globe: "Skaters to vie for team spots"
“‘It’s our biggest Colonial Classic ever and it tells me that synchronized skating is becoming more popular and more well known,’ said KrisFarren, event chair.”
Happy to say I will be attending!
LSI Short Program Detailed Results (PDF)
Really interesting! During the broadcast they said at one point that there had been a miscalculation of scores, but didn’t say what it was and whose score was miscalculated. It looks like it had to do with the Rockettes, whose scores originally put them in first (they announced the score as 61-point-something) but now they’re in third behind Haydenettes and Team Paradise. Very close, though! This is still anyone’s game.
My short summary:
Haydenettes didn’t get their circle step sequence called for some reason, they only got a level 2. They also got s3 in their NHSS, and one of their field moves was called as an fm2…I can’t remember the program well enough to know if that’s what they were aiming for, or if they were aiming for s4 and fm3 and didn’t get the calls (surely they were aiming for CSS4).
Highest program component mark in the event belongs to Rockettes, who were given 9.00s in both choreography/composition and interpretation.
Other notes:
For those who didn’t watch, the camera was positioned in one of the corners of the ice - hardly a flattering angle for any team. Paradise’s skate was breathtaking (music was a version of Hallelujah, I couldn’t indentify the voice), and the Haydenettes’ skate looked just the tiniest bit messy, but again, the angle was terrible. The Rockettes were fast and neat, as usual. They skated to “Hey Pachuco” which I recognized from the movie The Mask and I got really excited that maybe that was the theme of the program, but I don’t think it is.
Until tomorrow evening……
